Wiring neon light tube to trunk light

I am going to wire a neon light to my trunk light wires today and just had a question

There is a red and black wire on the neon light but the stock wire in my car is some stupid colors. How can I figure out which is the + and which is the -?

use a dmm...put your black lead on bare metal in the trunk, and see which wire has 12v on it..that is the +
