Wiring a Mono amp

So i havent purchased anything yet, because i wanted to clear things up first. I plan on hooking up a mono amp to a pair of DVC 4ohm subwoofers. But i am not sure how the amp wiring works out, cause some mono amps have 2 terminals, 2 (-) and 2 (+) so i'm not sure how i would hook that up. Also, I plan on wiring the subs in parallel to create a 1 ohm load on the amp, which is possible correct? So when I am looking at amplifiers I should check the RMS power at 1 ohm X 1 channel to match my PAIR of subwoofers RMS correct?

okay sorry, alot to learn. If you could show or help me out with anything that would be great, thanks

Yes, you need to look at the power @1ohm or 4 ohm(depending on how u wire it) x 1 channel. You would just hook up one + and one - of the mono amp. Most of the time its the outside + and -

Yes you want to find a rating @1ohm to match the rms of both subs combined.

For example if you want 500rms for each sub, look for 1000rms@1ohm

Wire the subs in parallel and your good.

so say i want 1000 RMS for each subwoofer (4 ohm DVC) from my mono amp. would i need 1000 RMS at 1 ohm X 1 channel or would i need double that power. I plan on wiring in parallel to maximize the power output so....

and about the 2 terminals on a mono amp, so i just wouldnt use one terminal at all?

you don't have to use both speaker terminals on the amp - not all mono's have two anyway.

If you do use them both -- they are parallel inside the amp. That means you can wire each sub's coils in parallel resulting in 2 ohms and connect each sub to its own terminal on the amp which would give you the 1 ohm final load.

Alternatively you can just connect all the (-)'s and all the (+)'s and only run one +/- to the amp.

Yes, the amp needs to equal the total rms of the subs. Ex., for a couple Type R's at 500w rms each you'd want an amp around 1000w rms at 1 ohm. Power doesn't have to be exact.

so say i want 1000 RMS for each subwoofer (4 ohm DVC) from my mono amp. would i need 1000 RMS at 1 ohm X 1 channel or would i need double that power.
If you want 1000w to each sub the amp would need to be 2000w.

at that point you might need to look into a charging system upgrade. 2000w requires a LOT of current.

If you want 1000rms per sub you need a 2000rms mono amp @1ohm or 4 ohm x 1. If you can find a JL 1000/1 or a PG Xenon 1200.1 u'd be getting 500(for the JL) and 600(PG) per sub at any load, 1ohm-4ohm...

okay i appreciate the help alot, the two terminal thing on a mono amp never made alot of sense to me.

yeaah i was planning on getting a pair of pretty strong subs that run at about 1000 RMS, and my car speakers are already in place and what not so i only needed a mono amp. So what mono amp would u suggest for running a pair like this?

if youre gonna go with a total of 2000 watts, you need to look into upgrading your electrical and see if your budget will allow that.
