Wiring a 12cm PC fan to cool my amp.

Hello every one,

My amp is running pretty hot and I live in CA and it gets pretty hot right now. Though my amp has not gone into protected mode any time yet, but it's pretty hot to the touch. I want to put in a 12cm fan to cool it down some what. I have a 10" sub the draws 150rms and with an amp bridged putting out about 150rms also. I have the gain at zero, which is dead center.

I know the weather has a lot to do with the heat. Thus I want to wire a fan to keep the amp cool. Since the weather is hot, I drive with my AC on and this reduce the air flow if any in the trunk.

I just wonder if I can use the blue remote lead to turn my amp on and one cooling fan without any problem?

As long as you don't have anything else hooked up the remote lead besides your amp, you can wire it to the fan no problem.

If I want to use a relay switch, the power lead from the battery to the switch, does it have to be a big 12GA cable or could it be a 14GA speaker cable that would carry enough current to remote turn on the devices? What size fuse should I use for the switch?

you could let the back seats down to cool the trunk:idea:

I have a blanket to cover the rear deck down to the back seat, so it's hard to fold the seat down. I put the blanket on to save the rear interior from sun damage. It's also a hassle to do this every time I drive.

Just wire a power ground fan inline with your remote wire

Strongly suggest that if you are going to use the remote on wire from the HU to the amp that you use a relay.

um, get a class D rather than a/b..

they run much cooler.
