Wiring 12w6v2 to BXi 606?

What's up guys. So I think I am going to get this set-up. The only question I have is how would I wire it? And how much power would go to the sub? The 12w6v2 is 400 watts RMS ..and it's dual 4 ohm..whatever that means. The amp is rated at 600 watts RMS..but the only part that confuses me is that is says RMS at 4 ohms is 1 x 150 at 2 ohms its 1 x 300 and at 1 ohm its 1 x 600. So from common sense I am thinking that something is not gonna work out since the sub is dual 4 ohm..

You can wire the sub down to 2 ohms giving you 300watts. Under the RMS rating of the sub but thats the best you can do.

If you get TWO 12w6v2 D4's You could then wire them down to 1ohms meaning 600watts. In reality you'll be splitting that 600watts x 2 then again down per voice coil. So you'll still have 300 watts on one sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So an amp like a 500/1 JL is better because you can wire it for 500 watts from 1.5-4 ohms?
The Slash-series amps from JL making rated power anywhere from 1.5~4 Ohms is a handy feature but that doesn't necessarily make it a better amp, per se (though they are inarguably nice amps....just a bit on the pricey side for my tastes)

There are heaps of amplifier options out there that would be suitable for you.

Going back to your original post the driver you have being a Dual 4 Ohm sub means that it has two voice coils with each coil having a nominal impendence (the measurement of electrical resistance) of 4 Ohms.

With those coils wired in parallel you'll get a nominal 2 Ohm load. Like so:

With the coils wired in series you will get a nominal load of 8 Ohms. Like so:

1_4ohmDVC_8ohm.gif

For your purposes the parallel wiring makes much better sense. So, if you haven't already made an amp purchase look around for one that is rated for 400~500w when presented with a 2 Ohm load.

The JL 500/1 is one option but by far not the only one.

Cool thanks alot for the response. If you don't mind what are some other good choices of amps? I was thinking a Hifonics BXi 606 but thats only 300 watts at 2 ohms. JL is nice but just to much money at like $440. I like Hifonics because it's only $175 lol.

Lemme see......

A Kenwood eXcelon KAC-X401M like I run is rated for 600w @ 2 Ohms. That would suit your needs so long as you keep the gain turned down somewhat. They can be scored off of eBay for under $150 usually (they'll be used...it's a few years old model amp)

A Phoenix Gold X600.1 makes 600w from 1-4 Ohms and can be scored from eBay for around $200/shipped. (and the X400.1 that makes 400w from 1-4 Ohms can be had even cheaper...usually around $150/shipped)

Profile AP1000M is rated for 500w @ 2 Ohms (and Profiles are usually a bit overrated but still reliable power for the money) and can be eBayed for just over $100/shipped usually...

Also have a look through our Classifieds and see what's there too.

Allright cool. The only other question that I have is that do you know of any amps that are new? Because I know that Phoenix one is discontinued. Meaning I would have to buy one used. Sorry to be so picky //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.

There are many of them available on eBay that are still BNIB units just old stock. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
