Wire the speakers the stock way?

what size amp should i get just to run the 4 speakers?
Really almost any size, type or brand of external amp (except a mono amp, you want at least 2 channels; L and R) will be significanlty better than any head unit amplifier power. The amplifiers in HU's are just too small and can't vent heat properly. Even the "high wattage" HU's are 18 watts per channel, they say 50 watts x 4, but that's peak watts, they're only 18 watts RMS per channel. They can't even give 18 watts of clean power because once they heat up, then can't cool off and will distort well below their 18 watt output. An external amp can cool better and will give better performance.

If you look around here in the classified section, or elsewhere, for a used 2 channel amp you should be able to get one for less than $50, I've seen them for as little as $25.

If you still have the wiring from the old unit then your all set.

A 4 channel unit would allow you to fade from front to back, but you don't really need that, a 2 channel would work fine.

hmmm. i think i might be able to salvage the one i have but its just too **** big. i want to mount it under my passenger side front seat but the floor is uneaven and i wouldnt be able to mount it properly. I want to keep the drivers side free to mount the amp for teh new subs im gonna get.

Is this for the truck in your avatar? Usually people mount thier amps under the rear seat or against the rear wall.

Look around at install pics of similar trucks for ideas.

You could mount the amp on a board, upside down to protect the amp as long as there is enough room to cool it.

no it is useable im sure but like you said i will need new connectors. and i had to sell my subs because i had two 12 ina massive box in a extra cab truck, there was no room, im replacing it with a stealth box under my backseat with 2 10"s i sold the wire set for the amp that was powering my subs but is till have another set of wires to put my 4-channel back in. but the questions is, where should i mount the 4-channel? there is just no room. either way weather i was gonna keep the 4-channel or not it still ahd to come out for the meantime until i can find a new place to put it and buy some more wire sence the amp will be relocated im going to have to extend the wires from my speakers.

yes it is for the truck in my avatar. so it is possible to mount the amp on teh backwall behind my backseat?

these are the wires from my speakers, that is as long as that get, so i wasnt able to turn my amp side ways or anything so it stuck out.

Alright i took your guys advice and put the amp back in, it was more work then i hoped for but it was kinda fun.

To get the amp to fit behind my backseat i had cut some of the frame out of the backrest:

That was kind of a pain in the ***, but the amp fit perfectly after that:

this was my first time ever having to do any kind of custom work by having to cut into my interior or anything, but it went well and was actualy pretty fun.
