what is the lowest strand you can go on power cable. the 4 guage i have is 30 and someone told me that that would hurt my altenator trying to run power along the wire to the back of the car. it is welding wire I haven't put it in so i don't know. it is excelene wire 600volts but he said that you shouldn't use it becasue it isn't good for lower voltage like my application.

But back to your problem.

Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about. Welding cable is fine to use for power wire. Just make sure it's properly fused.

The strand count isnt what really matters anyway.

Its the surface area of the wire.

The downside to a lower strand count is that it makes the wire more rigid and harder to work with. Electrically, though, it will be fine.

the fuse is a 60 is it alright. It's the rockford inline one.
