IMHO, Rittenhouse represented law and order, which is what they were rioting against. It's all on video and it's pretty damn clear if Rittenhouse didn't start shooting there plenty of other rioters ready to jump in - you can see them retreating once lead starts flying. Rosenbaum was carrying a chain because he was chaining store doors shut in an attempt to preventing further looting. I'm guessing the guy with the baseball was probably just heading home after a baseball game.

I would think the cops and national guard also represented law and order. How many of them were attacked by rioters?

Only those directly involved will really know, but on the surface it all seems pretty odd.
Grosskreutz really throws the monkey wrench with the fact he was actually an EMT and said he was there to observe & report as he had done at other riots, and offer medical help as needed.

The video says it all. Plus look at Rittenhouse, he looks like a wuss. IMHO, if he wasn't open carrying he would havw got his arse whooped as soon as some peaceful rioters laid eyes on him.
