‘Government watch lists. The FBI, CIA, NSA and other government agencies have increasingly invested in corporate surveillance technologies that can mine constitutionally protected speech on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in order to identify potential extremists and predict who might engage in future acts of anti-government behavior. Where many Americans go wrong is in naively assuming that you have to be doing something illegal or harmful in order to be flagged and targeted for some form of intervention or detention.‘

Welcome to 1984. OTOH, I worked for DHS for a while and we were able to pretty accurately identify bad actors. You'd be surprised how many bad acts the gov't has stopped because gov't data gathering activities allowed them to intervene before hand.

I’m sure there are good people within the gov who do stop bad stuff from happening. The problem is the top and what else all of this technology and spying will be used for. Everything we do every second is tracked, basically, and all that information being collected feels like a predator building it’s strike plan. Like we have a 4th amendment to protect us from evil eyes; the power of what’s been built is too much not to be corrupted. Now the anti-terror state that we used to target the Middle East and what not is being turned on us domestically, and it’s dangerous for all of our healths.

True. OTOH, DHS has identified that our greatest terrorist threat isn't from the middle east, but rather domestic terrorist. Having been there, I have to agree. Domestic terrorist are very well armed, funded and more educated than the middle eastern variety. Plus they are already here and can fly under the radar, (not the technological radar, but they look like "us," talk like us, act like us, dress like us, etc.) We're damned if we do, damned if we don't...
