find something about the same size and lay it on the tint cut around it

yeah i was thinking about using a coin or something. but what kinda knife should i use? something like an xacto knife? or would a razor blade work just as well?

Carbon Razor will cut scar the glass. Stainless tint knife is the way to do it.
