will this work in a ford escort 1997 lx sedan?

i have a 1997 for escort lx sedan with the stock sound system in it. i herd the door speakers are 5.25 not the 6.5 that websites and bestbuy say. so i need to know will a pioneer ts-d161r 6.5 rev coaxile speaker will work with a 5.25 to 6.5 1 inch spacing adapator? thanks

The stock speakers are an oddball, 3-hole 6 1/2" design. You can fit some 6 1/2" aftermarket speakers but not all. A shallow 6 1/2" will fit better than a 5 1/4"; with any 5 1/4" speaker you'll need to build some sort of adapter to fit the opening. Usually 1" spacers are not an option in these vehicles because of the close-fitting door panel.

well the speaker cover / side pocket on door is a plastic peice i could rip off and not care but the window handle would hit it right? what if i cut the window handel down and reatched the knob? but would a univeral adapter fit in?
