Uh, he editted. You even quoted the edit, so not sure where your confusion is coming from.
As said above, probably loosen the suspension. Speaker suspension does wear out over time. Not to mention I highly doubt the pressure was/would be exerted straight down, which means the coil will be pushed out of alignment, that much weight could likely deform the cone/dust cap, etc etc.

Not sure what else you expected to hear as an answer to that question. Pretty common sense if you know anything about how a speaker operates.

Yes, that can damage the speaker and change how it sounds. It will also change mechanical power handling. I have a sub that has had that happen and the suspension sag limits the rearward throw of the driver and thus limits the forward throw due to the ease of bottoming out. It also shifts your parameters quite a bit causing a large loss in sound quality.

Even having a sub up or down firing, if it's not designed to do so, will cause a slight parameter shifting over time.

Yes, as you put it that will fux0red the sub. I reconed a power hx2 that a guy had in his closet with stuff piled on it for about a year.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif The suspension woudn't come back to the rest position and the coil rubbed horible so he brought it in.

oh well it's not a sq sub in the first place. what pisses me off is that [numerous, like the family sized pack] paper towels were put on top of it. that's so ironic it makes me want to kill an orphan. what sucks even more is that i wanted to run two of these subs and now they're going to sound different. i need to go find an orphan now.
