ok, i have 2 2000spl's and hifonics 1500d amp (running @ 1 ohm, "750" to each sub), but i dont have enough room in my car for both of them, and i was wondering if i could push one of them with my amp, only at 2 ohms ("1000" watts), i'm wondering if i could put it in a small ported box (bout 1.75 cubes) and push it? doesn't a small ported box raise power handling?i dont want to go out and buy new equipment, i just want to know if this would work....any help would be greatly appreciated......

p.s. the only reason i'm wondering if this would work, is because i've heard hifonics amps are overrated, and pioneer subs are known for taking more than their rated power.....TIA

hmm im not too familiar with the hifonics amps but im sure u could wire it to 2 or 4 ohms for less power. if not you can try it and tell us how it turns out lol..........

my friend was just showing me his new amp...a sounstream 10.0s i think(a lot like mine but with a cover over the connections), running his premier spl 12"(dual 2ohm vc wired @ 1 ohm) in a fairly small box /w 25^2in of port opening. he turned the gain up a little and the sub quickly began to hit it's mechanical limits. after listening to it for a few minutes i could smell the sub(i don't think he'll have it much longer).

what is the voice coil set up on your subs? pioneer has a odd way of making their subs dual 2ohm and dual 8ohm limiting your wiring options. neither of which can have a pair wired in mono to a 1ohm final impedence. a single dual 2ohm sub will either be 1ohm or 4ohms final. a single dual 8ohm sub will be 4ohms or 16ohms final.

Be careful with the gains, and find out how far you can push it (volume wise) before it starts to bottom out, then don't go that high while listening.

A ported box increases the thermal power handling of a driver, but reduces the mechanical handling. This means as long as you're not bottoming out and such, you should be okay.

UPDATE!!!I just hooked it up @ 2 ohms (1000 watts), in my sealed box and it took it fine with the gains at about 1/4 ways up.....think it'll take it in a ported box??(1.75 @33)
