Will an IDQ10 work off a JL 300/4 amp?

First off, this setup in in my friend's car.

I realize upon first glance the question seems odd, but after reading the manual for the amp I have some questions about finding a sub that will work with JL's "optimum" setups. Let me explain

He currently has a pair of MB quart components running off the amp's first channel pair, and I can only assume they are pulling a 4ohm load. I've yet to come across a set of MB Quart components that require more or less (I could be wrong...).

So, he wants to add a subwoofer and has decided on an Image Dynamics IDQ10. I told him to get the dual 2 ohm voice coil version so we could wire it up for 4ohms.

In the back of the manual it says that in order to run an optimal setup:

1st pair of channels 2nd pair of channels

75Wx2 @ 4 ohms -----------150Wx1 @ 8ohms

Huh? 8 ohms?

Furthermore, it says that running the front pair of channels at 4 ohms and the rear at 4 ohms is considered "sub-optimal"

Can anyone shed a little light on this? Will he be OK with just running the one IDQ10 2DVC and pulling a 4 ohm load even though it's "sub-optimal"?

Thanks all!
