will a square port work?

well you get slightly more port area with the square port as far as i know the shape doesnt matter that much.. i say go with the square if its easier.

A square port actually works better (more efficient) than a rectangle because there is less friction from the port walls for the same amount of port area.
in this case its more port area tho //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

What I was implying was that you could get away with using slightly less port area with a square port vs. a rectangular one (especially a tall and skinny one).

But yes there is more port area in this case; that 0.25 sq. in. will make a pretty big difference. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

This reeks of thylantyr //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif. You'll never see the difference, and if you do it'll be on some testing equipment.

Same reason why a round port is more efficient than a square one. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Oh, I thought that was because of the other things I do with round ports //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Thanks everyone for the input. So if a square port has less drag and smaller port can be used would I want to use a little less port? The box is 11.6 cu ft gross. Im putting a solo x 18 in it and its going in a toyota pickup.
