wierd smell

so i switched to 1 ohm the other day and it sounded great untill yesterday when all of the sudden i got a wierd smell(like when you touch a +and a- togetherin your house or from one of thoseionic air fresheners). now it seems like its not hitting as hard. does anyone know how to tell if i blew the sub or a voice coil?

i just got it a week agoand my amp is only a hifonics1605d, the l7's are rated at 750 each. the bass boost was all the way downand the gain was on 2/3, 3/4 at the most.

Well, what about the bass boost? I know it is a pain in the butt but take your subs out and smell them. If they have the same smell, most likely you blew them.

It may of been your amp, smell thaqt as well and see if you have an odor coming from it.

if it's DVC you might have just blew one of them coils

what sub are you using?

oh and if you're amp didnt allow 1ohm then you're ****ed too, it might be the amp

You probably sent the subs a clipped signal and blew or burned one of the coils on each sub. Nex time, set the gains on your amp using the Gain Setting Tutorial in the amp section of this forum.

Directed 1100D, rated @ 1ohm and will do it..

CHeck R with a DMM. Do a search and you will find out how to.

Well. bass boost and gain too high will blow subs. SOrry dude but I think ya are a few coils short now.

You blew them, there was no fault in sub construction. I doubt kicker covers it.

but yeah the L7's have a funky smell to them when you break em in, almost like burning metal.
