Why is it that there are never any threads about capabilities of a motor to control the cone @ xsus?

-or-

do you really think that an 8 layer flat wire coil can have a low inductance?

-or-

would thermal vents in the gap or in the top plate do a better job of wattage dissipation?

-or-

why aren't there 6" voice coils?

-or-

ah.. nevermind.

Because everybody's too busy answering questions about:

1. "i wanna hear that shit bump yo i gots to get me a sub that goes boom like so fool"

2. Puff the Magic Dragon.

3. "How does an orange compare to an RE XXX?"

hey NjccBflo.. what your take on capabilities of a motor to control the cone @ xsus?

6" VC's baby //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif Problem with VC's that big is sky-high inductance, hence the reason you don't see them too often.
No shit, I know the problems with them... that's not my point. Nothing technical seems to get discussed anymore... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Probably because this is more of a newbie forum, and most of them are just learning the difference between RMS and Max power, and would never comprehend (or become utterly confused about) how Le affects a speaker/subwoofer. Think of how many times we have to explain something simple, like how a box affects frequency response, or how to set a gain, or how to set a crossover point.....or what a crossover even is......

But, wouldn't it be easier to learn more effectivly if the newbies understood the reasoning?

Comprehension > reitteration.

e.g.-

Newb: "Why can't I lick to positive post of the battery while holding the negative one??"

Not as much of a Newb: "Who says you cant?"

80% of everyone else: "flame, smilies, flame, do it, get it on video, etc"

They need to understand the basics before they can understand the underlying physics of "why". Can't teach someone about Le if they have no idea (or very, very little) of what a VC even is, or how a speaker truly works.

how come everybody is talking about how bad the newbs are and not about the techinical discussion that was brought up?
Because his real question was why don't we discuss things of that nature. Mainly, IMHO, it's because most of the forum base 1) doesn't really care, or 2) isn't advanced enough to grasp it. Nothing about the newbies being "bad"....everybody has to start somewhere, and you can't fault someone for just entering into a hobby......but those kinds of questions just aren't going to be brought up very often.

Maybe talk the admin into opening a subforum (maybe under the "general discussions" section) for "advanced discussions".....like what SIN has.

But inductance is a major part of how a speaker works & what the voice coil is...

I suppose that is my point... the people that believe a nominal impedance is the way a voice coil works are prolly not going to care about the dcr shift once power is applied.

But they are one in the same topics.

Not disagreeing with you, that certain things should be discussed. It's just such a fine line between "teaching someone" and utterly confusing them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
