Why can coax and component speakers play midbass better than midrange speakers
Their surround and spider have more flexibility for better travel. This travel allows them to play easier into the lower sound spectrum. On the negative side, this free movement also limits their power capability because of over excursion. I think that inductance also plays a negative role, not sure how.

Also, to be more efficient and play to a higher frequency, the cones in most mid range speakers are lighter than the typical coaxial and component speaker cone. If you put that midrange cone on a speaker that produces bass, the cone would probably rip itself apart.
