I was hooking up 4 Type R's, and 2 were playing and 2 were smoking. One was smoking way more than the other. They were smoking for about a minute at low volume and low gain. I didn't even have them screwed in yet. So I ran back there and yanked the speaker wire out of the 2 that were smoking. It was wired right. I had 2 subs wired for 1ohm on channel 1 and the same for channel 2. The amp is an ap30001d. I re-wired it to a higher ohm an all the subs worked fine, but that was not enough power for my taste. The subs were not smoking anymore while playing. One sub still stinks a little from the coil smoking, but is not smoking. The next day I re-wired all to a 2ohm mono load. This is the full power of the amp and it sounds way better and no smoke. I let it wang for a bit at the car wash just to see if I could get those 2 that were smoking to blow because I figure they didn't have much life left in them. They are still going strong, but they might quit on me later down the road. Does anyone knows why this happened?
