why not horns?

alright, here it is... i wanna go deaf. i like my tunes loud as hell. i'm tired of buying comps and not being satisfied. this time i'm gonna build a very loud sql system. i think my only option without running multiple drivers and tweets is to go with an active 2-way system. does anybody run horns anymore? they were huge like 3 years ago. i wish the Image Dynamics CD2COMP's weren't so exspensive. are the lower lines comparible?

also, who maks a good 7"/8" midbass driver that will match-up pretty good with horns. i plan on powering these mids with either the zapco 750.2 or the audison vxr 400.2

i have horns. look for threads made by me because im too lazy to find them.

if you want it loud, horns might not be for you. oh they get loud, hella loud. but i also have $500+ in eq\xover options for them. not to mention a hell of a thing to installate.

if i were you, i would look into some 3 way systems, maybe a DIY 3 way. mount the drivers in custom baffles on the A pillars pointing at your face.

i dunno, horns are for sq IMO. no such thing as SQL *imo*.

horns are for hardcore sq people. i dunno. i just dont think they are up your alley.

well, i heard a full id competition car and it was the best system i ever heard. totally ruled for metal. i got the eq's, need a passive crossover. wanna try something different. i think my best bet is to get the cd1 pros first. get a feel for the horns. i need to find a mid driver to run with them.

f.y.i. there is such a thing as sql

check these out, not a bad deal. I ran horns for years, and truly, they are not as hard as people make it seam to get them sounding good. I did it with my eclipse head unit.

I sold some to W8... you could also see if he is actually using them, he may sell? anyways the link for the others is http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=255654. Once you get the horns installed, you can always put different drivers on the bodies. you will be looking for a driver that will run down between 800hz and 1600hz to match with a decent 8" midbass,

good luck

anybody ever hear of these compression drivers? they look pretty good.

i need to find a midbass driver that rules for metal and will match-up nicely with horns. i'd like to keep this a 2 way system.

300 for the pair of drivers you linked to.

what do you think about them? who sells horn bodies only? any suggestions on midbass drivers to pair up with horns? my dumbass sold my idq8's... never got to hear them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

I have four IDQ8's Im planning on mating to my horns (plus mids). Alot of people who hnave run horn setups have switched over to 3-way system. Not many 8's like playing up to the 1khz range well while still producing solid midbass. Not to mention, running 2-way means not being able to change polarity of midbass while leaving midrange alone... a common practice in these setups.

Ive considered going away from my IDQ's for RE xxx mids. The xxx's can severely outdisplace the IDQ's, and are easier to find. If I didnt already have my four IDQ8's, Id be running four xxx's.
