Why is the output from my subs louder when....

... i move my head further forward in my vehicle. I have 2 12's in a sealed enclosure in a 2000 Camaro. The subs sit in the rear well and fire up into the rear hatch glass and i've noticed lately that my bass is noticeably louder, clearer, and more defined the further I move my head forward inside the car. Consequently the further i move back the less intense the bass becomes which seems a bit odd since im getting closer to the subs. Just was woundering if anyone has a logical explanation as im curious to know whats happening here.

Also, is this just a result of a hatchback type car or is it common in other vehicles such as SUV's, trucks, or other cars with real trunks?

Because waves bounce around and hit stuff and are absorbed in certain places... You can't fix that in a car.
Yes, i understand the waves bounce off things and are absorbed by others which is why i would figure it would be louder the closer i got to them since the waves would have less of a chance to be absorbed by other things in the car. I dunno maybe im just thinking about it the wrong way. Not trying to argue just trying to get a better understanding.

Oh, BTW Chris96, have u ever considered taking out or just disconnecting ur stock delco subs? I noticed in your sig u still have them in as rear fill. I disconnected mine and and the bass sounds alot better now. I think there may have been some cancellation issues. Besides ur R's can cover everthing that those stock delco subs can and more.

It's extremely hard to calculate that kind of thing. Just think of it as voodoo.

It's corner loading. Listen to a system in a room and I bet that you will find it's loudest in the corners. Your winshield and dash make a nice spot for the sound waves to load off of. CRXs and other hatches are usually louder due to their small cabin and horn like shape. It also helps not having a barrier for the sound or a trunk to lose a lot of sound energy.

:werd:

Also, the wave has more time to mature up near the dash because it's travelling further there than it is to the headrest.
