Why is my dog so afraid of fireworks?

Every fourth of July I have to deal with my dog shivering in fear at the sound of the fireworks going on. Why is my dog so afraid? I've had other dogs, and my friends have dogs, and none of them have ever been phased by the sound of fireworks. For some reason, this dog just goes nuts and starts shaking like crazy! Any ideas as to why this may be, or how I can get him to man up? lol

Dogs have more sensitve hearing and have no idea why there are loud noises. You also probably wonder why touching little girls is inappropriate.

Well. First off dogs ears are sensitive. Second it's a surprise to alot of them cuz they don't know whAt's going on. U think u might jump if I shot off a 12 gauge without you knowing I was doing it?

My moms dog is the same way. I guess she made her self so nervous over all the noise at the parade yesterday morning that she shit everywhere up there.........and then brought her home and shit in the house, granted it was diahreha. Then last night when we came home from the fireworks display, which sucked...........she shat all around the house again.

My pekingnese (6yr old) and my Boxer (7 mnth old) both arent bothered by loud noises....butmy grandparents next door has a Jack russel (i think hes 7) and has ALWAYS been scared of ANY loud noises (ie: fireworks, guns, even the thunder) when theres loud noises he sits and shackes like a lil wussy. Its so bad the vet gave my rents a prescription of doggy Valium.

my german shepard is the same way, she doesnt shake, but she will come sit next to me until they stop

she is the complete opposite when i beat my wife though, she hides in the bathroom

my dog usually bites at my wifes knees as i beat her. she usually goes down fast though, so there is only a pop or 2, which doesn't get my dog too riled up. her daughter on the other hand is much tougher, so i have to beat her more times, so my wife has to pet the dog as i wail on her daughter.
