Why is it so hard to get loud?

hell even music boxes are not hard. People sure as hell like to make it sound that way but it's not really hard if you have basic fluid dynamic, acoustic, and aerodynamic knowledge.

Hell, even I can agree with that. With basic knowledge, you can get some pretty good sounding designs. Not the best, but definitely satisfying to most who do not notice the difference in sound-and that's perfectly fine also. Is this going to hurt my business saying that? LOL

LOL, you had 2 12's in the back of a Camaro oops Firebird, not on the inside of a chevy crew cab truck behind the rear seat not to mention you left out at what hz you did the 138.9 at, if I had to guess the hz I would say around 45-50hz, thats a big diff as far as db's are concerned. Neverthless not to bad for your setup.

That's a really low number. No offence meant just, wow. I hit 138.9 db a while back with 2 12's in a .8 cu ft sealed box (per chamber) with ~600 Wrms.
You probably had some enclosure design errors in first build along with other problems. Typically if you had all same equipment and add another of same amp you can gain ~3db. If you had a setup with 1 15 and add another 15 you can see ~3db. Take that same setup that you just gained 3db with and add another 2 15's to that same setup you can see another ~3db. This is very generally speaking. The 3db increase can be accurate based of how you go about adding the equipment to the occasion. So you can 3db gains in cases and not see 3db in other cases depends how you go about your next setup versus the previous and etc.

This was that setup in the Firebird..

hell even when I was doing designs and **** I still said things like that. convenience always out weighs price when it comes to america

As far as numbers a lot of people don't have a Term Lab handy for testing. Even after you build you can still gain numbers by doing simple stuff (like positioning a seat, closing/opening air vents, running your a/c, flipping up sun visors, removing a seat/seats, etc. Also, it takes time to develop tricks/knowledge/experience, so people just need to do their research.

Asking questions to obtain knowledge never hurts, but not asking questions about something your curious about may not get you anywhere. Help is all around just people need to simply ask for it.

Thanks, it was a simple setup I build just for looks at the time. Yeah, it peaked at 44 Hz. I was relating to the low number with information given. Now, with that being said that's not horrible. You still could have gained a lot more with a different box at same tune.

did anyone mention that the simple answer to his question is that dB's add logarithmically not arithmetically?

so if you have three sources that are 91dB each, the combined total is 10*log10(10^(91/10)+10^(91/10)+10^(91/10)) = 95.77 dB

i use excel for most of my SPL calculations. it's just easier.
