well i found my kicker 100.2 amp. and i decided to connect it to my xxx at 1 ohm. the thing sounds so clear even wit a 100 watts. like i can feel the bass.. i dont understand why.. my amp is also not 1 ohm stable so it cuts out at high output. so i guess its not my alterator from last time. so my question is will this harm my xxx at all? cuz i could care less if this amp breaks cuz i got it for 12 dollars. this is only for today tho cuz tommrow i get my power akoustik 2400db amp... do u think i should wait? well thanks

it could definitely damage the XXX. YOu are probably clipping that thing at higher volumes which could damage the XXX. You will probably be fine for just a day, but if it was me I would either wait for your other amp or just keeep the volume and gains down.

2 differnt inputs.. but yea i cant hear any clipping or ne distoriton.. its sounds real clear. maybe its jus the xxx tho. but yea, if the amp can take it, why shouldnt i let it, righ?

I'd stop using the amp for it's sake; and that amp isn't gonna hurt the XXX unless you've got it in a ported box and start playing way under the tuning freq...clipping doesn't kill subs.

...clipping doesn't kill subs.
umm...

Yup, it can, if there's enough of it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif You can get away with a certain amount of clipping, but without an o'scope it's tough to determine that amount.

I doubt there's a 100 watt amp made that could hurt a XXX, clipping or not. XXX's are rated for 16X that power. No amp Ive ever seen scales up anywhere near that high when clipped.

Remember guys, a distorted signal wont hurt a speaker, the speaker will 'reproduce' the distortion just as if it were music. But its power that kills speakers. Its not the distorted signal from a clipped amp that kills a sub, its the extra power that comes with it that does it.

I agree Id just wait though. If you are only going to run this setup a day, what's the chances you are going to mount and install the amp correctly, for just the one day's worth of use? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Ive seen this same story before, the "Im only doing this for today" thing. It ended up in an amp sliding around a trunk due to not being bolted down (hey its only one day), touching sheet metal and releasing its magic smoke.

I guarantee you, a speaker won't be able to handle even 1/4 of their rated power when they are receiving a square wave. Heat build up is fast.

What the hell are you talking about? A clipped signal is what kills any speaker.
I beg to differ. And I already stated 'what the hell Im talking about', its the power from the clipped amp that kills the speaker, not the actual distortion. A speaker will reproduce distortion just like it will music, its all just signal to the speaker. Hell, even some musicians intentionally put distortion in their music, rock bands are most notorious for this.

Really, Im surprised, being on your 'idiot list' and having to explain this to you. lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I said that clipping itself doesn't kill subs. I can send a fully clipped signal from a HU amp to a decent sub all day and it won't hurt it (unless it's in the case I mentioned before). It's just the fact that a clipped 50w signal can actually be more like 75-100w that causes problems. I figured you'd interpret that correctly Jack Frost.

A clipped signal won't output any more power than an unclipped on. Maybe if you have actually seen clipping before you would understand. Any amount of clipping is very destructive.

I haven't seen clipping? rofl Ive seen square waves more times than you Im sure. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif You were 12 years old when I was studying clipped signals at an installer's school 10 years ago. (just to fill you in on a bit of my background)

I do understand, completely. Again, distortion by itself hurts nothing. As phrozen said, you could send a clipped signal from a h/u to a 500w sub (for example) all day long and not kill it, there's simply not enough power there to harm the sub. No, the one not understanding here is you neon. Unless you'd like to explain -exactly- how a clipped signal in 'any amount' is 'very destructive'.

As for this comment:

"A clipped signal won't output any more power than an unclipped on."

Are you trying to tell me an amp's power output doesn't increase as it clips? Sorry, but it does.

Again, Im surprised this 'idiot' has to explain this to you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif lol

edit: Now that I think about it, its been almost 15 years since installer institute. God Im getting old.
