why is everyone hating pioneer?

Seconded on Alpine controls. I've owned 15 different Pioneer decks since 1987. I currently have the one in my sig. i've also used Kenwood and Alpine, but I just keep coming back to Pioneer.

However, I will say that I've always wanted to try one of the nicer Eclipse decks, but at heart I'm a Pioneer fan to the core. Their decks just work and keep on working. I've never had one fail on me.

I hate alpine decks' controls with a passion. To access the TA menu, the manual says something along the lines of
"Sing the second verse of "What is love" by Haddaway, backwards, while solving a Rubik's Cube and fingering a Taiwanese nun."
TA access is easy. Hit the volume knob, done. I used to hate alpine deck controls, until I owned ones.

I've owned 8 or so pioneer decks since 98, the fit and finish was always fine for me. But after I moved on to eclipse which I felt was equal to pioneer, and then Alpine, I could tell a huge difference in fit/finish/sq/controls etc. Alpine is by far better than the best offerings from Eclipse and Pioneer that are readily available IE CD7100/880prs. In my opinion of course.

where did u get that info...I know pioneer is not the best HU out there..but they are good for its price. Better then Jensen, Pansonic, Dual and other cheap imation brand. I got the 780mp..and i do have some problems once in a while where the cd won't eject. But that isnt bad..cause i hardly listen to cd since i got an ipod.

Everyone has their own taste for which HU they like.. for SQ, Looks, Friendly user Interface..etcs

Alpines are much more expensive than pioneers of equal features, though the SQ is much better imho. Alpine's lower half end is nowhere near as good as pioneer's lower end stuff.

I've always used Pioneer and Premier.

No complaints. I read up beforehand and knew to be careful with the pre-outs for my 880, and I've zero problems at all. I do like a few of the menu functions better from my old P1R though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

What do you guys think of the interface with the iPod? Has Pioneer stepped up their game and made it faster to search through artists and songs? I had Pioneer a few years ago and got rid of it because of how painfully slow it was.....

I wouldn't say that, the Alpine is at 310 shipped on ebay, the 880prs is at 300/310 as well. Pricing is near the same. THe retail on both units is near the same. $340 for the pioneer $399 for the 9887.

Over time pio has left a bitter taste in a lot of peoples mouths from shoddy quality, decks that have noise issues or fail far before they should. Now every manufacturer has has these issues with certain model numbers of decks, but Pioneer seems to have more of these crappy issues even with more current headunits. That is why I personally will never use a pioneer again. On a side note back in like 1996 I sold my dad a pioneer cd player for his camp trainler, little bugger is still in there and in mint condition playing away! hahaha.

Also while most people grew up in the car audio world, they were seperated by brands that were available to them and there buddies had and loved. So in your early years you were already being seperated into a brand you liked. I started out with an old alpine knobby deck and loved it! The in the mid 90's kenwood excelon ruled the world with there mask faceplates and I found heaven. Great deck until they also died in short time from there ribbon cable issue. I then tried eclipse and found the most hated deck of my life. I came back to eclipse 7 years later with the cd7000 and LOVED IT. But overall the best decks I have owned ever were ALL alpine units. From both versions of the 7909 "overrated" the 7949 which is a legend and one of my alltime favs. 9835 which is a legend and my current single din fav, 9815, and now the best unit I have ever run the d310 with h701 processor. Most amazing combo I have ever used by far.
