Why is a Kicker ZX 1200.1 louder than an Orion 2500d???

O.k. here's the deal. I've been helping a buddy of mine make his 70 something Buick get loud, and he just put in 2 15" L7s in a ported box. I don't help him hand and foot, so this box is a prefab and probably 6 cubes total. That's not really important.

The important part is that he tells me his Kicker amp is WAY louder than his 2500d?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif WTF, I say?

I haven't heard it yet with the Kicker, but when he hooked up the Orion it was hitting pretty good but it had not yet been tuned correctly. He was also using only ONE of the power inuputs on the amp and running only ONE battery (2500ds have 2 power and ground inputs). I told him not to do this by the way, but we all know some people like this.

Could this be why there's a difference?

Im going to go out on a limb and say yea thats prob the reason. I have never know anyone not to hook up both power and ground wires from the 2500 terminals.

Depending on the ohm load, that Orion should walk all over the Kicker.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

doesnt the kicker amp put out the most at 2 ohms? if he has it all wired to 2 ohms then that means the orion would only be putting out half of what it could potentially be doing at a 1 ohm load
Orion 2500 puts out 1700w at 2 ohm, still should be stronger than that Kicker.

Both are at 1ohm? The kicker and the orion?

Then it doesnt make sense. Louder to ear doesnt always = louder on mic, but still doesnt make sense.

The new orion 2500's are only 1200w rms amps, IIRC. So if it's a new one, that's why. if it's a year or two old, the older 2500D would walk that Kickers ***.

So *shrug*

Orion might not be seeing enough power either, who knows. Too many variables for me to know shit about it. I'm going to excuse msyelf out of the window.
