Why is 1 computer slow

Before I head over to computer forum I will see who can help me here.I have 4 desktops and 1 laptop on my wireless network but using speedtest on all of them 1 is showing dl speeds of 1mbps or lower while all others show 6mbps or higher,the wireless signal thing will show a good connection but the dl speed is terrible,comps have similar specs.All comps are using cheap *** adapters except this one.

there is far too many variables involved for the info given...

How far away is it from the transmitter?

What is it's signal strength?

Can it access the LAN fast or just slow on the WAN?

Have you tried releasing your ip address from that computer and renewing it?

Have you tried disabling all installed firewalls?

Have you tried a different test site?

It's possible that sometimes a computer will cache the speedtest so when it does it again, it's faster than normal... Maybe all your pcs are slow and you not know it...

Lots of things to find out first.

Maybe its 802.11b and not 802.11g? That would definitely cause slower connections. Windows firewall maybe?

That's my guess. Without knowing all the hardware it's almost impossible to say. It's like asking "my 12's are louder than my 15's, why?" without any other info.

the "wireless signal strength" meter is unreliable at best

i would swap it with a pc in another location and see if that helps, if it does then it is software related, not hardware
