Why don't competitors use pro audio subs?

Cerwin Vega is back to making the 21" Stroker Pro Audio sub. The only problem is that one of **THESE** won't fit in a Civic.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

ETA: I am glad I don't DJ anymore because I would be rocking four of those bad boys in my mobile setup.

500 rms for $230?? My subs take more than that for 1/2 the price
They both seem like 40-200 woofers, meant for house cabinets
Suspension is too soft and it wont take the power that a regular car audio sub will.
Why do you dingle-berries always think power handling is the most important thing?

Increasing power is the least efficient means of increasing output.

When burping at or very near tuning, like an SPL rig does, BL is important, as is heat dissipation. The ported enclosure dampens cone excursion greatly at this point, leading to the importance of those two areas. So actually, power handling, for once, is pretty important. But alot of factors go into a successful SPL speaker besides power handling, however that does not diminish its importance either.

In SPL, power is one of the things you need. They may be efficient, but if you cant give them the power that any other SPL sub can take, you wont see the DBs that you will with thousands and thousands of watts on a less efficient sub. That answers his questions as to why they dont use pro audio subs.

Not really, cone movement is cone movement. If two subs in otherwise identical situations are both moving 10mm, but one requires 10,000 watts to get there while the only required 100 watts, they are still creating the same SPL level (again all other factors being equal). The reason power handling becomes important is due to what I mentioned above about increased cone dampening at or near tuning in a vented box.
