I am trying to figure out why people rip on sony products on this forum so much?Is it he said she said crap or have this many people really had that many problems with them.I think it is kinda funny because I have been using sony products for over 15 years and dont think I have ever had a problem with anything. However people on here rave about pioneer and I have personally watched 3 of them smoke inside my dash(10+ yrs ago)Now before all the crap hits the fan I still have a pioneer hu that is about 8 years old and it works great. Also I have not used any of the sony xplode amps or subs.but their old amps use to wang

I personally have had a sony amp. and a 12" explod jus to see how bad it is. and I must say the woofer gets mildly loud but has barely if any sound quality behind the boomy bass. the amp seems to have ba distortion also i hooked it up to my mids and highs. no good

basicly there hu's are ok but there amps , subs and any other speakers ****. the amps never do anything near there rated power and smoke after a while of use. subs they usualy smoke too and are over rated. alot of the sony stuff is just mid grade equipment. you cant expect much from mid grade equipment.

Does sony only have the xplode line or do they have upper end modles as well?

My current hu is sony and i really like it but its the only thing i have ever used from their xplose stuff
Their old and im saying like 94ish sony and sony mobile not xplod isnt too bad, but then again better can be had for the cash/
Yeah i was talkin late 80's early 90's when i used there stuff before.I had a 20w x 4 sony amp when i was like 16 the amp was about 4 inches long and 3 inches wide.I used to run all my mids and highs off of it at .5 ohms. The thing would get so hot you could light ur cigarette off of it but it never did burn up.Hell i think i ended up losing the little baztard:laugh:

I've heard an Xplod setup and it got loud but was struggling to do so and had virtually no SQ. I'm sure it was the setup (if I remember correctly I don't think the guy new how to setup a crossover so it was playing higher then suppose to).

Sony stuff just isn't really worth buying, you can find much better for the money.

can the older ones handle .5 bridge?
The older amp i was refering to,that i was running .5ohm was only rated for 4ohm load.i done it to watch it smoke but it never did.i ran it that way for at least 2 years and my brother ran it for at least a year the same way.

Yes Sony does get a bad rap on here. I came to understad when it comes to car audio on here, and what I use pesonally, the quality of equipment used by people is so much better when you compare them its like apples and oranges. My little brother runs sony explods amp and subs, they will bump but the sq is just not there. I think for the average Joe, Sony will do ok, but for the car audio enthusiest that we are in this fourum, the quality just don't cut the mustard.

I have yet to hear a sony setup get loud or sound any good. I had a friend who bought 2 p5s and thought he was loud. It sounded terrible and my single mtx 8000 was louder and sounded better and that sub is shit too.

Sony used to make great signal processors and decent amps but they have really gone downhill with car audio. I use a home setup made by sony and it is amazing. It gets loud, sounds awesome, and is very flat from about 30hz to 15khz. They are towers and are even braced inside.
