Why does my amp go into protection?

I have a spa1900d db drive amp, I have read good things on this amp and if you look it is not cheap either. Although when Im bassing it goes in and out of protection mode. Why? I have lowered the gains and it has helped, but again why?

I have 2 12' P3s IN A PORTED BOX, I had this install done by a professional shop. When you say wiring like the wiring into my amp? or to my battery? Is there like a checklist I could go by to eliminate Possibilities. My subs still pound but when I turn it up it goes in and out of protection mode. I have lowered the gains and it has helped but know I cannot bass as loud.

gain was set too high. did you set the gains urself?

what is clipping? No I only had the bass on like half way.
