Why does Alpine insist on having such a high impedence on their pre outs?

Read my review thread that I just posted and this part

I also find that the Audiocontrol Matrix that I originally purchased to increase the level of the 880's outputs is no longer necessary. The Eclipse has much stronger outputs with no know noise issues like the 880 has. 9887 - Although rated at only 4 volt at high impedence I must say the 9887's outputs are VERY strong. They are similar in sound to the ear to the CD7100 which claims 8v.

how do you ground the HU without using the factory harness? I have the same symptoms with a kenwood deck, it's probably my grounds.
I don't understand. Why would a suspect ground cause one set of pre outs to have a low output, while the other set is uneffected? That doesn't make any sense.

Ive got an easy solution. Being an Alpine HU fan myself, and never running into this problem, trouble shoot thusly... Swap HUs with a friend right fast, and see what you get. I would wager dollars to doughnuts that you will find you have the same problem, and if you dont you know you have a faulty HU.
For sure. Or, buy some deck from a box store and try that. If it curse your probelm, you know whats up. If not, return the deck.

I just swapped out my CD7000 (5v's at 55ohms) and felt the exact same way. The 9887's preouts are stronger than I expected. I have not adjusted my gains at all after installing it.

well if you have amps that have more power than you need, you could turn the gain down lower and still get the same or higher volume without a chance of clipping the amp.
