why do you like roof flex?

I actually made a support for the roof of my Jeep today to prevent this roof flex "issue" as I should say lol . Although it is fun to watch the roof take a beating . Ive noticed the low end(35hz and below) improves substantially when keeping constant upwards pressure on the roof . Its basically a lil stripper pole that fits in pretty well with the inside of the truck .
Little stripper pole? I know a couple of midgets and just got this great idea...

Eh, I knew someone would challenge that.

Some guy did a writeup testing different box placements in different cars to see the response's inside and outside the car. Deciding what the best placement is for optimum listening.

I'll find it tomorrow. Or I'msure someone on here knows what I'm referring to.

Pretty hard to stop flexing on the roof of a truck. Anything short of welding isn't going to stop flexing.
You can increase the rigidity of sheet metal, yes even a roof, several ways. IMO a spray-on deadener will tend to add rigidity more than a rolled on mat will. If you dont like that idea, I have a recipe for sticky concrete I know will. Lastly, Im toying with the idea of rather than mass loading the roof of my blazer with a spray concrete or even mat, I might layer it with fiberglass to stiffen it instead to keep that weight off the roof.

I have 6-8 layers of cascade\bquiet i think on my roof i would have used MDF but i didnt think it would fit with the head liner in...i think it would have now **** roof flex its annoying and eventually the roof will break.

Roof flex sucks when you break a roof brace then all you hear is metal slapping against metal.
True story... Happen when I got my blazer. I don't know if the brace was broke to begin with but a week after I installed my stuff it started rattling like a *****.

there is no reason for it to be loud enough to be flexing your shit. your HU has a volume knob for a reason
my reason is i like my vision jumping, stuggling for breath, and needing hearing protection while i drive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

well pretty much all those things could be solved by leaving the girlfriend at home. Problem solved then you can go back to ball shaking bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I eventually broke all the support rails on my jeep before I put my wall in. But while I had all the interior out I filled the rails full of liquid nails and put 2 layers of Fatmat on. Now that I just pressurize in front of the b pillar, it really doesnt flex too much. In fact, when I close the doors and roll up the windows, even at full volume its not loud outside of the vehicle. Downside - doors flex in and out. And I cant deaden them much per MECA rules.

That's why you fill the cross braces with expanding foam. Those braces aren't even connected to the sheet metal of the roof in the center. 5 mins and 1/4 can of expanding foam really helped stiffen my blazer roof and stopped that annoying metal on metal slapping noise it made just driving down the road (let alone with bass cranking).
