Why do my Massive CK6's sound sloppy?

So I have my 2 sets of CK6's hooked to a Massive NX5 and they sound so **** sloppy at high volumes. My deck's HPF is at 125 and I have both the front and rear HPF knobs on the amp set to about the same(the range is off to 200hz). I have the crossovers set to 0 dB IIRC. Gains set by MM.

When you have the HPF on the head unit turned on you should turn the HPF on the amplifier off. If that doesn't make the speakers sound better then you need to try turning the gain down. If you have the bass turned up on the head unit that could be affecting the sound negatively as well.

I have yet to be impressed by anything Massive personally. I have played with a few items on my own and did some installs including one recently with their new products and I just don't see the value compared to their prices.

OP- There is a long list of things that can be going on in your setup. Anything from settings to clipping. You will have to basically go through and check each one by one until you can fix the issues you are having.

Why such high HPF? Looking at specs, these speakers could easily do 60-70Hz with a sharp slope. Try to turn off amplifier's filters completely, and use the high pass filters on the head unit. It's really hard to tell from amplifier's knob what your HP frequency is, since the knob action is usually non-linear. Amplifier's crossover will also induce a phase shift unless it's a digital implementation (I doubt it).

More importantly, what exactly is sloppy about these speakers? Midrange, bass, imaging, something else?

"high volume" is relative.

the CK6 isn't anything fancy. at high volumes the coil moves out of the gap and you lose detail. it's not underhung.

i am running a CK6 woofer in my kicks that i bought in 1998. temporary while i build the doors. it is midbass 60Hz-300Hz
