why do ebay people insist on paying more than things are worth?

i think i will start selling on ebay, i have been a member since 2000, but only used it a handful of times

recently i have been watching laptops and other computer items for sale locally to find a good deal and i have noticed people pay WAY too much for stuff on there

there is a 100gb 7200rpm laptop hard drive i am watching that jumped from $13 to $41 in the past 10 minutes with 3 hours left. so it is at $48 shipped right now and climbing.

it is an IDE drive which are getting harder to find, but you can buy a 200gb 7200rpm drive with twice the buffer for $50 shipped brand new

just pissed i cant find any deals:(

deals are hard to find due the fact alot of people on ebay dont know what they are talking about and will pay about anything. me and my dad have an ebay bussiness selling used motorcycle parts and people will pay like 300 for a set of shitty stock rims... when we see those rimes going for like 100 shipped maybe less on bike forums

its all in the listing man! When I am looking for something, I also look for mis-spelled titles as well. You'd be amazed what kind of a deal if you find a real goofy spelling!

1. (and this is the big one) People are stupid and do not do research or know about pricewatch.com and newegg

2. People are generally competitive. The price going up is not relevant as long as they win. Winning is everything.

3. People generally believe what they are told. You make it seem like a good deal, and they got a good deal.

I see that all the time at live auctions as well. Dumb people think because it's an auction the price is low.

Kind of like pawn shops charging more than something costs new. I see it all the time with musical equipment. People still buy it though because it is in a pawn shop it has to be a good deal.

I use ebay as a reference.

I can't tell you how many times I've sold stuff, set the buy it now price higher than I thought I would get, then people start bidding which removes buy it now then the final price gets higher than buy it now was.
