Why Carpet a Subwoofer Enclosure?

I tried searching, but I could only find people asking how to carpet their Subwoofer enclosure, or where they get their carpet from, but anyways...

Besides the obvious reason of making it match the trunk of your car... Why else would you carpet a subwoofer enclosure?

Does it change anything acoustically with the subwoofer?

Or does it do anything else?

its all aesthetical. my box is raw and it suits me fine,but if you want it to look good there are other options such as using truck bedliner or painting it

because it looks fucking retarded and tacky to have plain wood enclosures. its obvious somone was too lazy to finish them.

unless its a SPL box that is meant to be rebuilt and changed and modified, then it is just real tacky and i would never show anyone that i owned a plain wood box.

its like owning a couch in your home with just foam\cotton\ect cushions but with no fabric over them. or sleeping on a bed without sheets.

think about it, then ask again.

It also prevents the box from sliding around if it isn't bolted down...

honestly i really never look in my trunk , and dont show any buddy else whats in the trunk,so it would not bother me if its not carpeted my box im picking up this weekend is not carpeted. im probably going to end up painting it though

I ordered a bare box from fishercustoms, I have no need to show off what I'm putting in my trunk, because you never know who you can trust these days. So i was just curious about whether it would sound different or not... It wasn't a stupid question... thanks for the guys who gave me MATURE answers.

Keeps it in place better. The painted one im using now slides around alot, where as my carpeted one never did.

meh, just add a couple L brackets. Fish makes beautiful boxes, I would never cover it personally

I'll have to see how it looks when I get it, I'm sure it'll be incredible, I'd rather not mess up his work. But we'll see how it goes.
