Why can't this be ported?

I just dont want to lose the current thumping and bumping that I have with the polks
lose the polks, use the jl.. or go with something totally different. Stereo integrity still gets my vote if you change altogether.

Thank you for all the informative posts. I guess I'll just have to save up after I do this system so I can get one that is SPL based. Whitedragon. With this type of sub would it be advisable for ported? Or should I just stick with sealed? And the reason I asked about the battery is I will have 2 1000watt amps running at the same time..not just one.
1000w crunch ground pounder on my 2 polk db 10"

and a 1000w jl j2 on my 2 13tw5s
EBP leans slightly towards vented, but not by much. For a QTC of .707 you would need a 1.9 cube box sealed. Ported you get a pretty flat response at 1.5 cubes tuned at 32Hz. There is a slight peak between 40 and 50Hz.

That being said that sealed box is rather large. You can drop as low as .8 cubes sealed with a near flat response.

I am sorry. I did not understand that whitedragon. Can you put that in noob speak please? thanks lol
Basically you can go sealed or ported.

Sealed your looking at a box that is .8 cubes or so if you want to save space.

Ported your looking at 1.5 cubes with the port tuned at 32Hz.

groundpound, if someone wanted to buy/trade for these subs and amps I would be all for it...

I really want to move into memphis s classes or the SI BMKIII or if they come out soon enough the SI BMKV

sadly getting your hands on a SI BMKIII is hard enough as it is..let alone getting 2+

whitedragon, what advantages would I gain by porting it?

Well you just might loos something having 2 different subs and 2 different types of amps running them.

I sure the JL's will give you more than what the Polks do.

Look at it this way...

You are getting what you are now in part to having space for the 2 polks to do what they do. Now you add a second , fairly large box and you loose some of that breathing room for the subs to work properly.(not talking about internal box space but cabin space)

You are almost guaranteed to loose, either, most of the punchiness(sp?) or the lower end of things.

You just need to use those subs for what they where designed for.. Adding bass with tight spaces. If you want more sell them and start over. With what you would lose in a sale you will still get more of what YOU are looking.

You will be louder and more efficient with the same power. And in most cases, you will be able to get louder lower in the fq range.

Ok, lets put my hopes and dreams on hold now.... how badly will my system be affected by having 3 boxes instead of one... I basically have 1 box of 2 polk db 10" downfiring, and about a foot infront of that on either side of the trunk box facing inward will be a box with a 13tw5... how bad will it sound? if I can get good shakes then im happy. I realize I can't do much with so little amount of room... I am just kidding myself if I think I can do anything with just the trunk + 2 sq feet. I would have to get a new car, especially since the jeep has an unsecure roof..... 2000 jeep wrangler.....not the best for SPL //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Not even 4 shallow 10" memphis s classes will give me the bump i want? =S

Adding more drivers and more power will usually result in higher output levels (better 'shakes'), but at the expense of regular frequency response. How many different ways can these guys explain that simply piling every sub type/brand and amplifier into your ride that you own, just because you own them, is a bad idea. Screwing 58 bullet tweeters to your dash 6 inches from your face would be louder too, but who would want to listen to that shit? Not me.

If your current sub system cannot perform adequately in the mere two octaves it is required to reproduce, piling more speakers on top of it is not the answer. Fixing what's wrong with the current system is your best option.

Thank you Audioholic. I am actually getting a single 12" Custom TC9 from bettr n' revrse, so yeah I dont have to worry about the tw5s anymore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
