Why can't this be ported?

doing a hairtrick with two of those 13.5's is quite possible if you are willing to spare some room. if put into ANY enclosure even slightly resembling a recommended enclosure from the JL site or dealer tech book....no. their own published parameters are already way off anyway. a "hair trick" goal is a byproduct of "high pressure differential". so to get the byproduct of a huge pressure differential, that means you give up all sorts of other things such as bandwidth, pressure readings at whatever spot you want (dash, kick, headrest, etc.) if chicks' hair exploding into the air is your main goal, then don't be upset when you can't hear it down the road or it doesn't score high or it sounds like wet @ss.

If by hair trick you mean this:

, then yes that pathetic excuse for a hair trick is possible. a REAL hair trick with 2 13w5's NO

i wouldn't run a shallow mount sub in a ported box, its gonna tear your subs up. i once ran a pioneer shallow mount back in the day in a ported box, it was even underpowered, and the amount of excursion it was getting tore the sub up in less than a week. if you wanna take a chance up blowing your subs, then go ahead and port them. there is a reason jl doesn't recommend a ported enclosure.

if you want to run ported etc, sell you jl's and buy something different.

i see no hair trick in your future with those subs bro. and honestly if the manufacturer doesnt recommend ported boxes.. theres a def reason lol... probably that reason being the subs will fail from doing it that way so you can port it but you might be buying new subs rather quickly. good luck.. try going with 2 subs that are more SPL friendly and you might achieve your goal..

stick around and learn some stuff and figure out what you want and what your goals are and someone will point you in the right direction for those goals I'm sure. Also what type of Jeep? if its the type that has the plastic windows that come off and stuff..those are extremely hard to get any SPL out of because of the fact theres no real rigid structure to it anywhere in the cab.. kinda like trying to make a convertible loud.

Meh blanket statement at best.

EBP is a 53.8. This sub can be suited for sealed or ported depending on what you want. Surrounds these days are much more sturdy than the old school foam. Couple that with proper tuning and you will be fine running ported.

haunz, would it be advisable? and what about the battery?
you're wanting more than what you have can offer man. Get something with a larger xmax and go from there, it's a start. 9.7mm just isn't much movement for that.

Also, i'd stay sealed.

I see. ok well yes I do have a jeep for a car. and as for the comment about bending down is false.. the subs will be like head/neck level due to the set up of the car haha. Ehhh will I need another battery? If so how much would it cost me? I have seen videos of people getting a good shake/mirror flex in their cars using 13TW5s so I am assuming I can expect some more rumble and tumble in my car by adding these?
Don't expect to me moving much with shallow JL subs man. You don't need another battery either not enough power to justify another bat.

you best bet would be to try a 4th order it will give you a lot more output than sealed and should be fine for the sub. hair tricks though good luck.

A very intelligent post. People tend to focus on a single goal in a system, and then wonder why other aspects of performance suffer.

Thank you for all the informative posts. I guess I'll just have to save up after I do this system so I can get one that is SPL based. Whitedragon. With this type of sub would it be advisable for ported? Or should I just stick with sealed? And the reason I asked about the battery is I will have 2 1000watt amps running at the same time..not just one.

1000w crunch ground pounder on my 2 polk db 10"

and a 1000w jl j2 on my 2 13tw5s

Honestly, you should just run one pair or the other. You will most likely have some big cancellation issues. Iam willing to bet that you will get

better results with just one pair. (JL ftw vs the polks)
