Why are online retailers so picky about your shipping address?

I've been shopping online retailers for some new stuff I need for my system, but I'm running into a lot of problems with their shipping address requirements. I can't have my stuff shipped to my apartment because I'm never there during the day to sign for the stuff and they won't just leave it. So I have to have my stuff sent to my work address, but many online retailers won't allow me to have my orders shipped anywhere except to my billing address. Why do they care where I'm having my order shipped to as long as I'm paying for the order? What if want to purchase something as a gift and send it to someone else? Am I going to be expected to have it shipped to me, then turn around and pay shipping costs again to send it where it needs to go? This is very frustrating!!!!!!!

Because if they don't ship to the billing address or the address linked to your credit/debit card you can say you never received it and get a full refund plus keep the item. If they have a option to pay by money order do that and they will send it anywhere you want.

They can varify it was sent to the address I told them to send it to. How can that be scammed? Using your logic I could also claim I never received it even if I had it sent to my billing address. Your logic holds no water.

I am having the same issue with sonicelectronics right now. They wont ship Kicker products to guam. So I am shipping to my parents then to my house. But they wont ship to my parents because its not billing address. So I had to have my bank *** my parents address as an alternate billling address. My bank did so no problems and I am going to order tomorrow from Sonic. I hope it works out alright.

I think its because , say your credit card was stolen and the thiefs went on a spending spree they would ship it obviously to another address. That is why most places are picky with shipping to different address. Sometimes they'll call you to make sure you are sending it to another address. Its for protection of the customer.
