A: I'm glad you need to purchase a subwoofer no one else in your area has just to feel special. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif I couldn't care less what name is stamped on it, as long as it performs to my standards I don't give a ****.But meh, you can't argue with some people.
B: It actually does change the parameters, it worked well enough for them to use it, so let em'.I agree it is also partially marketing to go along with their slash series amps. But they all have their reasons.I doubt they chose a 3 ohm coil JUST for the fact of sound quality. We both know that. But they're just trying to run a business, why not get more of your products sold?
C: Dealer cost on the W7's is quite reasonable IMHO considering their ALL AROUND erformance.JL has no say what their dealers sell them for.It will vary from one dealer to another. They pay their cost to JL and get the product, JL is happy and it doesn't really matter. For the people that say they are over priced, whine to your dealers. It's not JL's fault. The dealers just happen to take an advantage of the fact that JL is a very large name in the industry, and the W7 being claimed "the best".Just makes them extra money.
D: It does increase the cone area.Which falls under performance. But I do agree, those little rings are fragile and I have bent/broken a couple. You say you don't care about looks, but yet you care about the brand name that's stamped on it?
you still arent listening to what im saying.
A. its not about the name thats stamped on it. its about little fanboys thinking they know everything about car audio because they use JL. i feel there is more in this world then the biggest brand name. and i feel that i can get better performance for my dollar elsewhere. so i choose not to use JL and to find equipment that will perform just as good and cost what i believe is a worthy price.
B. read - it is an
EXTREMLY MINIMAL CHANGE. sure, they chose it for a reason. but i believe the biggest part of that reason is to be different and unique so people will feel its a bigger change than it really is. why do you think companies can have two different coil configurations on the same brand of speaker, ie: dual 4 ohm type r, and dual 2 ohm type r, OH NOES - it changed the paramaters! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
i honestly can not believe its enough to change that much of an audible\mechanical difference. its what? a few less winds on the coil? i bet that 3" coil is heavy as hell anyway.
C. sure
DEALER COST is reasonable. i would pay $400 at most for a w7. thats what they are worth in my oppinion. maybe 500. they have been selling the same speaker for so long with the same price point. maybe if they actually did some more *ucking R+D and made the W7 better than it is now, it could justify their research. but to me, it looks like JL isnt doing much of anything. so what R+D may i ask i am sill paying for?
but i agree, dealers charge an arm and a leg because JL is the hyped "best available" - its good, i do not deny that, but it is far from the end-all-be-all.
D. okay, ill agree with you there. that **** ring does increas cone area and performance. but how much for the hassle of the ring. i do not deny it looks sweet. i do not deny it was a cool idea. but for me, its more of a pain in the *** than anything else.
again, these are just my oppinions. i agree with everyone that they are good quality speakers and amps from JL. but there are a few things that bother me, and those are my oppinions. i would rather go with other equipment that in my mind is better justified for the money.
