I dont need a poll to tell me that. This documentary had good marketing and all, but most people arent going to take anything from it. And people, that my granny want to see it, arent going to be watching. If you were living this life, why would you watch it? Or could you watch it.......
People that dont live it and dont donate or do any type of service to less forunate.....they may watch, but what are they going to do....not a dam, because they dont care, nor does it affect them.

I have the same feeling, not just about this, but about anything. Ill watch it, but I know dam well im not going to do anything about it.

shit yesterday i was laughing at 600lb people. Would I help them? NO Its their problem and habits that got them that way.
thats not true at all. programs like that influence many people to go out and do something. look at those late nite programs for kids starving in underdeveloped countries. those programs don't operate on good looks. ppl give time and money

angie jolie got inspired from seeing things when traveling and brad pitt got inspired by her.

look how many ppl have givn to causes that support the relief efforts in darfur and other parts of the world, through huge televised concerts and other forms of media.

look at how many protesters went down to jena , la cause they saw the story on tv

how many times have you seen the local news and somebody died and a fund or scholarship was started in their name and ppl give/gave $$ to it??

there's always something on tv, billboards or the radio about breast cancer...... ppl see it and wanna do something about it and they do

So how exactly would these people go about funding some random person from the hood?

Ill agree that America is the most charitable country, however you dont see that shit coming into where it seems to be needed the most. Thats really a matter of opinion, we could argue all day about this based on out life experiences.

Jena 6 had a cause and story behind it, revolving around a few individuals. Poverty isnt going anywhere and isnt a small problem, it involves millions.

The fund, I probly have heard of one, but cant think of one at the moment, you have an example?

The cancer thing, good example. On the flip side of that, look how many people only donate AFTER someone they know has either died from it, or been diagnosed with it.

You think Magic gave a shit about AIDS before he had it?

katrina is another good example. People opened their homes, but that was a true disaster. Would these people just open their homes to random people from the "ghetto", just because they saw a few case studies on CNN?

ppl can do it through a program already in place i.e. a food bank. very few ppl just randomly give money to strangers

Earl the Pearl's had a fund raising drive for the children who were victims of Hurricane Katrina. Ms Esther Bush came out to meet some of the people there, and pick up a check. Earl the Pearl's raised $778.00 which was given to the Urban League which will be sent to help the Katrina victims. In the photo from left to right are. DJ Sly Jock, Derrick Hemby, Robin Young from the Urban League, Andre Hemby, Earl "The Pearl" Hemby owner of Earl the Pearl's, Urban League of Pittsburgh President Esther Bush, Pam Williams, and Sharise Hemby.

(( earl the pearl is a hole in the wall bar.... pac ur nunchucks if u go there ))

and these are just local

Thats what I was getting at, the bolded part.

I know that didnt say $778? If it really meant $778, I think it helps prove my point. I wonder how many people knew of this fund raiser going on. And thats all they got? (just read it) WOW

The way I think of it is, most people having the "out of sight, out of mind" attitude, I think thats pretty much where my opinion comes from.

thats cool. but we both know it takes more than money. that why when ppl see these programs, sure they can give money, but they know it'll go longer if they give time and energy and other quality resources.

My fiancé is from Trinidad, which also has a huge racial divide. Trinidad is about 45 % Indian 50 % Black and 5 % Asian/White/Mixed.

There is a real problem with crime there now, primarily driven by the black community. Significant racial problems exist there in an environment void of white people. The Indian population consider themselves the workers and drives the economy, while the black like community expects handouts and government aid.

So the divide between blacks and other races doesn't just exist in White America. In fact your fellow brown brethren from Mexico are openly racist about America's African community and depict this frequently through jokes and cartoons posted in news columns.

yeah, its a hole in the wall bar. if i went in and took picws of it, u'd understand and then realize that $778 is ALOT comin from that place

I understand the temptation to want to compare the success of Asians to that of black people. At the same time, I think that is bullshit to limit the comparison to black people. If you want to do that, include white people as well.

I don't know about grants that Asian immigrants may receive, but my perception is that they have a stronger work ethic and are more willing to make personal scarifices than people who are born in America. And why woldn't they be? What appears to be sacrifice to us is living the good life to them. With all the opportunity that is available here, they must think we are sorry and/or idiots for not working our ***** off.

Perfect example of this is at universities. Almost EVERY Asian I have had in a class has been super smart. Work their ***** off to keep up their grades. Also many foreign professors. This goes for the Indians/Mohammeds whatever the f*ck they are too. Those people who I had to ride the bus beside my Freshman year who stank. They were smart too.
