it can be. which is why im going into structural engineering. but im not gonna sit on my *** wasting my life by asking rhetorical questions to myself. im gonna design shit and get paid.

I understand, but unfortunately you raised the question, and this is predominently the West, and yes "many things are wasted".....

I believe that "smartness" cannot be measured between the 2 job titles but must be measured at the indivdual level.

The greatest minds combine both skills sets (visionary / analytical) into one and become a specialized engineer. The ability to have the vision and execute upon it is the true measure of being "smart".
