who listens to AFI???

i think few people actually read my original post...which was understanding their lyrics...not whether or not the lead singer is gay, bi, whatever. Not if their any good compared to other bands....and wtf is an emo anyways...i only like a few of their songs...

To get to the original point, maybe there isnt a spelled out message in the song, its just open to interpretation. Like a poem or painting or something? I like the band and their music but hardly understand it either. But like someone else said, the more you listen to it the more you "hear" it (think White Men Cant Jump/Jimi) and get a feel for whats being told.

I dig some of their stuff. I've seen them live, pretty good show. Like someone else said...I can like the music without buying into the hot topic life style. I've seen people like Manson, Korn, Tool, NIN, Bauhaus, TON etc. live (my wife and I go to a lot of live shows) and more and more it shows that the fans aren't black sheep they are just sheep in black.

emo means emotional......;x
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif Uh no. No it doesn't. Emo is emotive post-hardcore. TONS of music is "emotional"--that doesn't make it emo.

The funny thing is the use of the term emo these days, particularly by people that just class emo into one big pile and think it's all about people cutting themselves and "crying about their lives". Pure ignorance.

There's so much stuff that people class as emo that's not at all emo. Add that to the fact that the use of the term applied to the many bands it is today, is quite debated as well.

Anyway AFI is also NOT emo and not even modern-day emo fans would call them that I don't think. If you listen to their songs and you think it's about them crying about their lives and killing themseleves like some clueless people have, well, then you have no clue about how they write their songs. A lot of their albums/songs are fictional stories about fictional characters, having nothing to do with their lives.

Also wearing makeup does not make you gay--it can also make you a rockstar, lol. Look at the guys in Kiss, look at Ozzy, look at... nevermind there's way too many examples to mention.

Anyway Decemberunderground is an awesome album IMO. I wasn't a big fan of AFI in the past as I didn't listen to them much but I decided to try out this one and it's amazing, now I have to go and get their old albums, lol. After hearing the album through once I could only think "why didn't I listen to these guys a long time ago?"

There's a great cover of Trent Reznor's (Nine Inch Nails) "Head Like a Hole" on the version of the album that has bonus tracks on it. Also the Miss Murder single has a cover of INXS' "Don't Change".

Who cares if he is gay/bi/etc? There are several artists who are homosexual. There are probably some people in this thread who have criticized Davey Havok for being gay but like Queen or Atreyu.

i just love all the ignorance and stupidity in this thread regardless whether they've listened to them or not.

oh and i'm more of a skater than an emo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i don't wear make-up, the tight black jeans and have black hair with the comb over but i listen to them. does that mean i'm "emo"?

and yes i listen to atreyu as well as a lot of so-called "hardcore/metalcore" bands. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
