who killed the economy?!?!

WTF. Now you two are agreeing with me? lawl
Sure, the lower class is the one taking the hit. So fricken what. That has always been the case. That's not a differentiator. And I agree 1000% on your comment about 2001, Ranger.
I agree with you for my current situation but the future not so much. I look at the future of my industry and where I will go to when my industry leaves me and the future is bleak, I will be in that lower class.

A good portion of that may be due to my own laziness in preparation for the future though...

At least you admit it.

My industry is in jeopardy too. If some wacko like Hillary Clinton ever does get elected my industry will be turned upside down and destroyed. Course when that happens, I'll have a lot more to worry about than my job.

But that doesn't bother me. I have a very flexible degree, by design, and the experience to boot. I recommend that you start taking control of your future.

I dropped out of college and enjoy poasting in my free time at work instead of studying or looking into other career options. A person can get overly comfortable when they've been at the same company for 10 years //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I still have plenty of time to figure it out, its just when I ask myself what I want to be when I grow up, I really don't have an answer...atleast not a viable one.

Yea, I waited until after college to start poasting and drift. lol Well, that's not true, I was drift during college.

10 freakin years is a long time dude. What industry are you in?

I drifted too much during college //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

IT, started with this company over 10 years ago as a lowly helpdesk guy. Got training, certifications, and experience over the years and worked up to server administration and for the past few years server/network security. Started into management a few years back and decided babysitting and spin wasn't my bag.

IT domestically is taking a shit, but luckily alot of domestic firms still like their security administration done locally, so that helps.

IT may be taking a dump, but that is one of those things that will always have some sort of demand. I think the current situation is due to two factors.

1- The market has been flooded with talent and the population is to large.

2- IT as a whole was over compensated for a decade and now those still in the industry have very high salary expectations.

After doing it for 10 years I'd be interested to see if you agree with me.

Indeed

1. Market flooded, people are getting laid off, yet every other tv commercial is still the "Come to brand-x college get an IT degree, you are in demand" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Add into that the India factor and you have wayyy too many people for the same position, some with talent, and some with not so much.

2. Plays right in with 1. We were high on the hog 10 years ago. Supply and demand for IT labor was in our favor back then, today it is the exact opposite. The market also demanded quality people back then, now sub-par performance is acceptable aslong as the boat stays mostly afloat for a cheap wage.

All that being said though, there are still a few high paying jobs (in my eyes) being offered out there. I've had a couple offers but with my current work from home gig I have now I couldn't justify it, even at a significant salary increase.

If I made a company move I'd like it to be a career move as well, just for a change f pace, the money in IT makes that hard to do though.

I know, I shouldn't be able to complain but I still do. I got a great setup at a great salary, but eventually monotony takes its toll.

I guess its the grass is always greener gig, I'd like a change but then I'd just be *****ing about having to drive everyday. An 8 to 5 with no pager or long hours would be great. Retirement really needs to show up about 30 years early //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

It's the driving that scares me most //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I'm a fuggin menace to my own drivers's license.

A work from home gig would be sweet. I could technically work from home when I wanted and no one would even know due to the primary fact that I have shifted my enter workload to web apps and with the use of webinar tools, no one would have a clue whether I was in my office or on a beach in Mexico. I just chose to come to the office for a change of scenery (and to look at the womens).

Automation is a beautiful thing, and wfh affords me alot of flexibility to work when I want to aslong as the work gets done.

My office is only about 50 miles away so I go in on occasion just so they don't forget I work there.

And its not a beach in Mexico but with a cellular modem card you work from just about anywhere //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Maybe I need to stop complaining...
