Who here is in college?

senior corporate finance major, business and poli sci minors. Qite a bit changed on how I look at the world. I will graduate in the top 5% of my class (out of 6000 graduating seniors); Magna *** Laude....everything was worth it, every night I went w/o sleep studying, every book I read to contribute extra to the class, since I graduate MCL, it's all worth it. Not that any of it means anything in real life. I had a goal and achieved it. I got to MTSU, the largest undergrad school in the state of Tennessee. I will work three years in the Airforce, two here, 1 in (probably) Japan and try to go to University of Chicago for my MBA. From there, work at hedge fund for 10 years and then teach.
Good luck on going to the University of Chicago!

A great business school.

One of the most desirable/marketable degrees.

im kinda in collage. i can get collage credit for what im doing. im an apprentice electrician i go to school 2 days a week after work and get the same vacations like collage does.

Bachelor's of Finance & Economics - graduated Spring 2005

Master's of Finance - will be graduating at the end of August 2006

CFA Level 2 Exam - June 2007

I'll stay with my company another 4-5 years and then either enter Harvard Law or their Executive MBA program. Hopefully by then I will have my CFA Charter and designation.

How hard was level one? I hear it is a killer....and you have to be quite crazu to complete all three.

Where did you go for your MA and why did you initially choose this over MBA? I am kind of at the same juncture, but I want to get as much work experience as possible first. I am looking at University of Chicago because it is a good school who overvalues (from what I hear) those who work for the government.

Level 1 wasn't that difficult for me as my undergraduate program was intensive in Financial theory and portfolio management techniques. My MS in Finance program is more of an applied quant program. Study your Financial Reporting and Analysis books, Cost Accounting, and the Ethics section (very important and not covered at all during school) and you will be set.

Honestly I wouldn't get an MBA just coming out of your BS. Don't get me wrong, U of Chi is a great school and Fama would be good to learn under but it wouldn't be your best move. If you want a serious program and an even better instructor then check out this Prof...

and this program...

If you want a top end job in the Financial world/Investments then this is your program.

You mentioned about working for the Air Force... What would you be doing there and why do you want to enter a Finance job with them? If I were you then I would look into doing an MS program and getting a couple solid internships under your belt. Then work for 3-5 years and bust your ***. After that maybe consider a PH.d if you want to teach or a J.D. if you want to make 500k/year + in your 30's.

I would never make it as far as u RMSanger LOL. i could probably do it knowledge wise if i took everything that leads up to it all, but i dont have the drive or whatever that it takes. Hell I dont even like the core classes im taking. went to a university and all i did was pass my english class. dropped psychology, failed math, and passed english. going back to the CC i started at next semester i guess. i hope to only step foot in a school anymore for 2 days a week until i find a major i really like, but once that happens, money wont be able to be had like i would need to move out im sure.
