White Noise Coming by Pedals..

I recently had my power steering rack and pinion changed in my 2003 Dodge Neon and when I got it back, there was loud white noise that seemed to be coming right by the pedals. It didnt sound like it was coming from the front speakers at all but I couldnt tell. Any ideas on what this could be?

On a more serious note, is the noise there when the stereo is off ?

Actually I was told that it was a vacuum leak. But where that is I dont think ill ever know.

ya always safe to have a vacuum leak around the brake lines, dont worry about it at all
