While in L.A. took a trip to Image Dynamics!

I took a trip to L.A. this week for business. Had a fun week teaching mechanics how to install GPS tracking systems that the company I work for developes. Anyways I have been eyeballing the “OEM” drivers ID is clearing out for super cheap right now. Well On Wednesday I happened to notice that ID is was located about 15 miles from me! So anyways I sent an email off to them asking if I could pick up the drivers from them. Now I have been around the industry for a long time, I know how allot of companies feel about customer picking up items. I expected to get an email back telling me that would not work out and if they sent that kind of email, no biggie I understand. The price of the drivers was awesome so it did not matter to much either way. Well to my surprise I got a simple email back from Eric at ID which said “Call first to set things up before 4:30, you can come no later than 6p,” Well cool! That was a nice surprise.

Friday evening comes and I almost missed the call! Got ahold of Eric, got the address and I was on my way. When I arrived I expected what I usually get when I arrive at a large audio company. To be escorted through sensitive area’s of the building and then to talk to some guy at a counter that has allot of attitude and is annoyed I am even there. Well again to my surprise I asked a few people for Eric, they told me were he was located and all had smiles! That is a first. And then there was Eric. He was slightly taller guy than me, mabey 5’11” - 6’. He came right out of his office, shook my hand and asked about my trip. He was very personable and very cool to talk to! He gave me a small tour of there facility and showed me stuff in the works, stuff they have already built etc. It was allot of fun for me for I have been out of the loop for sometime. We actually ended up yapping for a few hours about old competition vehicles. I let out a name drop here, a name drop there about past and present people which we both knew, lots of laughs about were the industry is and were it is going. I also learned a few things I did not know which was awesome. It was actually VERY refreshing to meet an engineer / company owner that was not a stuck up stuffy dork that was not really even into what he was doing. Again to my surprise he is still a hardcore enthusiast! He showed me his listening room, filled with beautiful tube amps, saw a shanling cd player I have been wanting and some other super cool gear. The guy is really into audio! Now that I see all his high end listeing gear and I think to myself “must be just a audiophile, why does he even make good subs and why is he even into car audio” Me being an audiophile myself, I have only ever had 1 - 2 sub in my cars. I mention this to him that I have only ever used 1-2 subs and that I would be using three of his special drivers in my project tc. He got the biggest grin and said “man, you will love three, when you really want to rock, just crank the knob!” I got a kick out of that. He loves it loud and hardcore as well! Hahaha.

Well anyways about the drivers, I see he has them on Ebay now for $85 shipped!!!!!! I also learned some top secret info about the drivers that some of you may already realize and some may not. Bottom line is that at $85 shipped these drivers are a STEAL!!!! I cannot believe he is selling them for that! Build quality, glue quality is all FIRST rate. You guys would be stupid not to buy a bunch of them if you have the cash. Now do not get me wrong, I am not an ID fanboy “well was not before the trip” and I never have been. I have never owned a piece of ID equipment but always liked it when I heard it. These subs are 100% ID designed and built here in the USA. No crappy glue jobs like allot of overseas drivers. Anyways here are a few pics below from the trip and some of the drivers I purchased. I cannot post any technical info about the drivers or what they are, but you hardcore guys know exactly what they are hehehe. And for $85 shipped you cannot find a better deal on the planet for what these babies can do! I just call them Image Dynamics model X. Or just simply a #11X since the cone area is that of an 11” sub instead of a 10” I LOVE the fact there is NO logo’s no gimmicks or bs. Just a simple brutal looking design. Black and silver. Very sexy! Subs are HEAVY! I put a business card on one to show the size of the magnet and the driver.

Anyways Props to Image Dynamics. Nice to see a company still care about CAR AUDIO and what it is really about! Not just sales, numbers, and keeping quality / price in limbo. All I saw at ID was TOP QUALITY, and some of the best built subs I have seen! Even if it cost a tad more to do it right, they do it right! That is why I bought up 6 of these #11X subs!!! ID, you now have a customer for life for taking the time to work with me, be cool and let me hang for awhile.

Ps... The toasted amp in the pic was from cliff designs *LOL* From what I hear they are not of.... um... quality hahaha. This one almost burnt a vehicle down when it decided to go. I do not ever remember toasting an amp like this haha! They had it on the bench for a laugh.

Yeah was nice. I have meet allot of them over the years, he is one of two that stand out in my mind as cool. The other was the old owner of Oz audio named John. That guys is funny as heck and 1/2 nuts *LOL* He still works oz as well!

cool beans! did the "inventor" talk all technical and stuff? it seems that people of thier stature have like thier own language haha.

anyways... arent those subs for 85 shipped extra eD stock they built?? or am i mistaken?

Somthing like that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Cannot really comment, but they are VERY VERY VERY VERY CLOSE to the ed subs from what I can tell. Now I am no expert, but I think they as close as two brand new cars of the same make and model with slightly different color paint jobs but again I am no expert hehe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif And for $85!!! Also yes he did talk in some technical spec but I understood it, he kept it to a level that he thought I could understand after I told him about my background.

On a side note: the tracking systems your talking about wouldn't happen to be EZTrac would they?

Nope. Our systems are the most advance in the world. The company I work for provides chip / tracking systems for military, high end car manufacturers and design equipment for the worlds top survey companies. Think they are close to a billion a year $$$ company.
