which way?

i have a 97 chevy ex. cab truck and i'm taking out my back seat to put in (2) 3004spl's.....im thinking 2 apiece @32Hz but which way to face them is my dilemna.....

my buddy has an ex. cab truck and his are forward firing and it's loud (but his are up around dash level and mine will be sitting on the floor. will this have any effect?) I've seen spl trucks face their subs and port up, is there a reason why?i'd like to fire forward so i'll have a little storage space for books and clothes, etc, etc on the top of the box if i could...any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!!

As far as trucks go....ports up, subs up if you can....unless you make a wall and seal the front of the box with the back completely.....

i had my 2 L7's firing up an forward (sealed) and it seemed better forward firing into the front seats.....any insight?i've never heard an ex. cab downfiring system.....

lol fireing down. I've wondered that as well, the differences between fireing up and forward... Does it have something to do with what it sounds like outside the vehicle? For instance fireing forward puts the sound waves more insync with the listener inside the vehicle and perhaps fireing upwards causes the vehicle to vibrate more due to the sound waves not being in as much sync...? I've got a normal trunk car, and when i had 2 15"s both facing the trunk you could feel the bass very well in the drivers seat, but when i faced them firing upwards in the same location you couldn't feel the bass as good in the drivers seat, however it made the trunk lid and the car itself vibrate like a ***** compared to when they were facing the trunk. Anyway the insight i'd have about why it seemed better fireing forwards is because the sound waves were directed straight to you and therefore you didn't have to wait for the waves to bounce up and down from fireing upwards to get to you which in the meantime could possibly weaken the possible strength of the sound produced and also weaken the sq.

port to the rear and subs wherever you want. my truck has enough airspace under the seat to run two tens ported. the seat has been lifted a little and the floor of the box has been fiberglassed to get more airspace. it sounds great and gets wicked loud for a under the seat setup. honestly, the loudest i have heard in a truck with the back seat in and the rear wall not cut. yea, it could be a little better with a bigger box and slightly larger port, but it is the best we have come across so far. thats after two 12"s sealed, two different sealed boxes for two 10"s, a ported box for a single 10", and the current box i have now. and i dont even know how many different speakers have been in those boxes.

not over there. is it worth joining? yea, port to the rear, i have good luck with the woofers firing up, but i am not saying up is the only way. port definitly to the rear though.

Ive narrowed it down to:

1) port back/subs up

2) port up/subs up

ive never heard of anyone porting back into the wall so this kind of scares me, i don't wanna put work/money into a box and not like it......my buddy has his ports and subs both facing up so i know how that sounds (pretty good IMO) Does anyone have any evidence as to why one way would have any advantages over another option???Thanks again guys!!

trust me, it sounds great. the bass tends to be a little deeper and more developed sounding when ported to the rear.
