I am going to hook it up to a Pioneer DEH_P9800BT head unit that i plan on purchasing soon. Also how is Sirius in terms of SQ? I want to go with Sirius because i listen to a lot of rock/hard rock and I have found/heard XM to lack in that area.

The first one you selected is superior as its a direct hook up unit, you will control it all from the head as oposed to a seperate screen and the fm transmiter in the second unit sucks. You could use the aux input on the deck to use the second system but it still means you need the seperate controler on the dash as opposed to through the head unit.

Yeah I would not use the fm transmitter on it. The main reason i am thinking aobut the second unit its so that i can see more info on what is playing and also have more features to work with. IF they are both hooked up directly will they sound the same or will the Pioneer Sirius tuner sound better?

i would use the second one and get an aux.input adaptor.

you dont get much info.on the headunit screen vs.the other display, plus you can do the 30 favorite songs.plus It stores the last 44 minutes of the channel you're listening to, and lets you pause, rewind, and fast forward live broadcasts.

I'd go with the second one as well as long as you are using an auxilliary input. With that one you can also get a sirius Home Kit and bring it in the house and listen to it. With the Direct hookup one it is stuck in the car and you need a second subscription and a second unit to listen anywhere else but your car.

Very shortly the guys at Directed will have an adaptor that will let you control a plug and play unit (the second one) with a Aftermarket radio (like a Pioneer for example). Cool thing is with a home kit, you don't need two subscriptions.

I think the first would be better, but both satellite guys leave alot to be desired as far as SQ.

Don't forget that free sirius internet radio... this is good enough for me in the house, but of course you can't carry it from room to room. Probably ain't the best sound either - I use it on my laptop for my "in house" sirius.

Then apparently you haven't listened enough. XM isn't for everyone but it definitely does NOT lack in rock.
