For the 12 inch older one, one of them is 2.5 cu ft @ 30hz, and the other one is 2.5 cu ft @ 35 hz. The lower tuned one says "SQ" and the 35 hz one says "SQL". I have no idea which one to get, because im not sure how each one will actually sound, the numbers mean nothing to me because i don't know about enclosures

It'll be decently hard to get that XXX to sound like total crap.
I'd go with 30hz, get some nice low end.
hmm, low end would be nice, but how much loudness and SPL would i be losing by not going for 35hz?

Probably not a lot, that XXX will get loud either way.
Just get 2 boxes?

Or one box that you can change the tuning.
ha, can't get 2 boxes for money reasons. If I do the 30hz one, will it be louder than it is now in a small sealed box?

Ported is louder than sealed pretty much all the time (unless someone really screws up a ported box).
The thread and discussion are not about ported vs sealed, its about different tuning frequencies when going ported. Haven't you read any of the replies? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

ls1pimp, build a box with removeable/interchangeable ports. Do a search here and on the other big car audio boards, should be able to find lots of info on them.

i was gonna have someone just build a box for me, and i don't want to confuse them or have a risk of them messing up by having them make some complicated tunable box or something. I wanted to just keep it simple. Well right now im leaning towards 30hz i think.

My bad, sorry. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It wouldn't be any turntable thing, it would be a slot port that bolts in place. Just a matter of making the ports with a flange, and making two with the different lengths you'd need. But I get your point, simple is what you want. Personally, Id chose 30hz too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

im actually browsing through some older threads about XXX boxes (half of the threads are actually mine asking stupid questions when i had my older car:uhoh: ) and people were saying that 2.5 cu ported is way too small for the sub? What is up with that? Just when i had done some research and nearly decided that i am gonna get 2.5 @ 30hz, now im reading people saying that 2.5 is a waste for that sub and too small. What do you think?

Also, did RE change their box size rec for their old sub at some point? When i go to http://www.reaudio.com/David (the guy at RE told me to go there for older XXX box specs) it recomends either 2.5 @ 30 or 2.5 @35, but there is another part of the site that is archived , and that one says 2.1 @28hz for the same year XXX's . So what is with that? It also says tune to 35hz for SQL, but that sounds kind of high honestly. I would rather do that because SQL is what im after, but i don't want to tell someone to make me a 35Hz box, only to not like it because it doesn't have good sound quality.
