Which HU for my mazda3? Premier 880PRS or the JVC KD-AVX2

With the new Pioneer iPod Interface (CDIB100II), will it play ANYTHING thats on my iPod? Including lossless? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-v2BCPRN...130IB100II#Tab

It seems to me that the 320kbps limitation would only be limited in situations where the headunit would be doing the decoding, where i assume, with the iPod interface, the ipod is doing the decoding and just sending the signal through to the headunit. Am i correct? Anyone know?

i got an eclipse 8445 for my mazda3 -you can get sirius and ipod interfaces for it and it directly integrates into the mazda's steering wheel controls (i've got the file to do it)

While i admire the function and very impressive specs of the Eclipse HU's, IMO they really don't look good. Other than the CD7000, the screens are actually quite of an eyesore.

Agreed. Eclipse displays.....Bleh.

Not sure about the lossless question, but I will say that it plays 320 vbr and cbr without any issues. Never encoded any lossless.

Id go with Pioneer over JVC any day.

If you want ho hum sound quality and a cute screen, then go with JVC.

If you want better SQ, better fuctionality and better reliability, go with Pioneer.

It's clear that the JVC does more than the Premier. But going by your list of NEEDS I would say the Premier fills your needs just fine since your list doesn't mention needing DVD playback. Unless you have some DVD-Audio discs I would say you don't need the JVC and pound for pound the 880PRS will sound much better.

I don't know if anyone on here remembers when they installed their 880 but my installer friend (installs for a Premier dealer) told me the 880 was heavier than the other Premier decks of recent years. Well i still hadn't bought one yet, so i swung by CC today to hang for a bit... Played a rascal flats cd on both the JVC AVX2 and the Eclipse CD4000 sitting next to it. The sound quality difference was astonishing, the JVC really sounded significantly worse than the eclipse.
