Which battery ?

Well, I tried to start my car for work today, nothing. The battery is hosed. My alt was messed up for awhile, so it went through way too many discharges and other abuse, knew it was going to die soon.

Anyway, I'm looking into a bit of a heftier battery this time around. It's going to be a straight up under the hood replacement. I hear Optima Red Tops are for this, but I'm pretty sure there's also some other brands out there. I need a decent amount of CCA's (enough to start the car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif), and the more amp hours, the better.

Thanks for any suggestions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well, in this situation...when it'll be taking continuous hits...a yellow top would be a better choice. I KNOW red top is considered starting...but yellow top also can. I have both a red top and a yellow top (red starting, yellow in rear for stereo). My friend (stock alt), tried both as his main battery (since he could only use one) and the yellow top did better...it takes the hits. He's had it for bout 4months now now problems...and no real dimming at all. peace

BTW: if you got bout $200...go with a stinger sp1700

my local pep boys has the yellows\reds on display, i think the red was 110 after tax, and the yellow was near $130.

if it was me, id grab a yellow. i was thinking of grabbing a yellow and putting it in the trunk, and leaving my energiser batt in the engine, and having 2 batts. because its only like 3 years old... or just see how my ~1000 will hold up with my new 160 amp alt. but id say get a new alt before you get a battery. its a much better fix for a dying alt than a new battery.

fix the problem. dont fix somthing that works. (i know the batt is dead, but it can be recharged)

fix the alt.

http://www.motorcitysuperstore.com for new HO alts fairly cheap. mine is working great.
